My Greener Home believe a product is eco or ethical if it can substitute for a product you already buy or want to buy, but has one or more of the following qualities:

  • The product is made in a way that is more friendly to the environment than the one that it replaces/
  • The product is made in a way that is more beneficial to disadvantaged producers and workers in developing countries than the one it substitutes (this is described as FairTrade)
  • The product will have a lower impact on the environment when you use it than the product it is replacing
